Mrs. Soundari Raj, Managing Director, UCMAS, United Arab Emirates, is from Chennai, India, hailing from a family of educationalists. She post-graduated in Science as well as in Education from Madras University. She was an active member of various Socio Welfare Organizations pertaining to children and women.
Mrs. Soundari has brought her rich experiences and values with her when she joined the Abu Dhabi Indian School in 1985 and served as teacher and administrator with dedication and total commitment until 2003. Mrs. Soundari’s service to the Abu Dhabi Indian School has been exemplary and her name has become synonymous with Chemistry as she became popular in an extraordinary manner both among the student and parent communities in Abu Dhabi
During her journey of teaching she noticed the impact of curriculum pressure and the burden on the children, and she was on the quest of finding ways and means to reduce the pressure and make studies enjoyable. In her ambition to serve the student community, Mrs. Soundari found her answer in UCMAS – Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System – during her visit to Kuala Lumpur in 2003. It is this thirst, which brought her close to the concept of UCMAS, which gives lifetime skills required for the children to be successful in the future. UCMAS was launched in November 2003 in the United Arab Emirates with 10 franchisees having 150 students registered.
UCMAS UAE now has more than 20 sub-franchisees with over 6,000 registered students duly served by over 150 Course Instructors imparting the skills. UCMAS is now a household name in the United Arab Emirates. Under the leadership of Mrs. Soundari, UCMAS, UAE has attained the enviable record of having conducted the Abacus Mental Arithmetic Competition at the National level in the UAE for 8 successful times, with the increased intake of contesting students each year.
